Rolling Calf

The Rolling Calf is one of the most feared figures in Jamaican folklore, a supernatural creature said to roam the countryside at night with blazing red eyes, flaming hooves, and heavy chains clanking behind it. In many tellings, the Rolling Calf is the cursed spirit of a wicked person, often a butcher, whose cruelty, dishonesty, or abuse of their trade condemned them after death. Its approach is marked by the sound of dragging chains and the smell of sulfur, serving as both a warning and a reminder that those who cause harm in life, especially those entrusted with power, may carry the weight of their actions long after death.
